After the retirements of legendary players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his thoughts on Shubman Gill taking over the leadership position in India's Test squad. Gill was chosen as Rohit's successor during a major shift in Indian cricket's red-ball game. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah were all older members of the team that he surpassed in favor.

Given the attention paid to his performance as a batter in foreign conditions, it will be challenging for young Shubman to lead an Indian team on an England trip.

Vaughan, who is well-known for his outspoken views and opinions, admitted that Shubman Gill has demonstrated excellent temperament in high-pressure circumstances, but stressed that he still has much to prove after assuming the great mantle.

"With Shubman Gill taking over as captain for the England series, he is now officially the new face of Indian Test cricket. After the retirements of titans like Rohit and Kohli, it is a daring choice to entrust a young leader with a fresh-looking squad. Vaughan, who is a member of Sony Sports Network's expert commentary team for the series, stated that Gill still has a lot to prove, particularly when he is not at home, but that he has demonstrated that he has the temperament for significant moments.

The recent retirements of Kohli, Rohit, and R Ashwin have created a fantastic chance for the next generation of Indian athletes to establish themselves on the England tour, particularly since the focus has shifted to new faces and there are lower expectations.

As the England tour might mark the beginning of something unique for this youthful squad, Vaughan highlighted their promise.

The five-test trip of England, which begins on June 20 in Leeds and lasts through August 2025, promises to be a demanding one for both players and spectators. Games in the series will be played at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester between June and August 2025.
