Following his loss to reigning world champion D Gukesh in their Round 6 match, Magnus Carlsen was forced to eat his words throughout the current Grand Chess Tour. Prior to their encounter, Carlsen had questioned Gukesh's position and made disparaging remarks about his performance in blitz and rapid games.

Following the loss, Carlsen softened his customary critiques of Gukesh and complimented the Indian grandmaster. “Yeah, he’s doing really well,” he told Take Take Take. very well now. Therefore, as you can see, the competition still has a ways to go, but winning five games straight is no easy accomplishment.

"To be honest, I'm not having any fun playing chess right now. When I play, I don't feel any flow at all. He added that he is currently "really bad at hesitating all the time."

As both competitors blitzed out at the start, Carlsen started the game on a high note. With the English Opening, the world No. 1 attempted to surprise Gukesh, but in the 23rd move, he chose to advance his b pawn, which shifted the course of the game.

Following his victory, Gukesh remained modest and remarked, "Yes, beating Magnus is always special, for sure. This also seems to provide a bit more confidence, as I started off with a terrible stance. I made a really bad mistake. It was wonderful to defeat Magnus twice in a row, even though I was losing both times.

After a late mistake caused the world No. 1 to collapse and slam the table in rage, Carlsen was recently defeated by Gukesh in classical chess at Norway Chess 2025. Although the couple will face off in two additional games, they will be in the blitz style.
