Mumbai: MS Dhoni's 'Captain Cool' moniker, which he held while leading the Indian team, is now one step closer to becoming a trademark. His request for sole ownership of the moniker under the trademark legislation was "accepted and advertised".

As a result, the 'Captain Cool' label that Dhoni suggested using for 'sports training, providing sports training facilities, sports coaching services' was included to the Trademark Journal of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks in Kolkata.

Because Prabha Skill Sports Pvt Ltd. had submitted the application for the label, it was initially opposed as a business. Dhoni's legal staff was successful in demonstrating that the name was well-known through media recognition, public usage, and consumer perception, and that his reputation and identity were connected to it long before.

The attorney representing Dhoni, Mansi Aggarwal, stated in a LinkedIn post, "This issue serves as a relevant case study in how personal branding and acquired distinctiveness can be effectively leveraged in trademark prosecution, even when facing earlier conflicting marks."

After being advertised for a four-month period without dispute, it is understood that it will become a registered trademark.

In India, famous athletes are less likely to optimize their personality rights. The trademark 'King James' has been registered by American basketball legend LeBron James in a variety of industries, including sportswear and apparel.

Michael Jordan, the other great American basketball player, has the 'Jumpman' emblem, which shows him in mid-air about to dunk, protected not just on his line of Nike sneakers but also on a large array of products.

Usain Bolt, a Jamaican sprinter and multiple Olympic gold medalist, has widely trademarked his famous winning stance in his nation and in other nations.

When Dhoni captained a squad of talented young Indian players to the T20 World Cup in 2007, he first gained the moniker of Captain Cool. His capacity to remain calm under pressure cooker circumstances was demonstrated throughout the competition by his behavior as captain, and he was able to win the last over by giving it to Joginder Sharma with 13 runs to defend.

In addition to leading the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL championships, Dhoni also led India to the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. In run chases, Dhoni's bat was never under pressure as he engineered last over wins, and sometimes last ball wins, in run chases.

The moniker 'Captain Cool' was bestowed to Dhoni as the camera focused on him in crucial moments with a poker face. He is now looking to make money.
