MS Dhoni Files for ‘Captain Cool’ Trademark After ICC Hall of Fame Induction
5 months ago | 5 Views
The first thing that comes to mind when you think about the term "Captain Cool" is MS Dhoni. The former captain of India's behavior on the pitch has had such an effect that no one else can compare to him in terms of maintaining composure. The World Cup-winning captain has perhaps applied for a trademark for the phrase "Captain Cool" because it seems that even MS Dhoni recognizes that no one possesses it in the same way as he does.
PTI news agency reports that MS Dhoni's petition for "Captain Cool" is now being "accepted and advertised." The application was published in the official trademark journal on June 16, 2025, as reported by the Trade Marks Registry portal.
Under the category of sports coaching and services, sports training, and facilities, the trademark has been registered.
Dhoni is among the most accomplished Indian captains, guiding the side to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2007, the 50-over World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. India even reached the final of the 2014 T20 World Cup and the semi-final of the 2015 ODI World Cup under his leadership.
Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Pvt Ltd, another business, also submitted the trademark application for the term "Captain Cool," according to PTI. The application's current status, though, is listed as "rectification filed."
Anyone wishing to register a trademark in India must first submit an application to the Trademark Office. The application is next reviewed for correct structure, and its merits are assessed.
After the examiner's concerns are allayed, the trademark is approved and released in the official Trade Marks Journal.
ICC Hall of Fame inducts Dhoni
In addition to Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, Daniel Vettori, and Hashim Amla, Dhoni was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame for 2025 earlier this month. "It is an honor to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognizes the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world," Dhoni said in an official statement.
He went on to say, "It's a fantastic feeling to have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats—something I will cherish forever."
India was represented by Dhoni in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is. He is still the only captain to have won all three ICC white-ball titles.
The top score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs is still his undefeated 183 against Sri Lanka in 2005. At an average of 50.57, he scored over 10,000 runs in the 50-over style. In addition to his exploits with the bat, he is also famous for his lightning-quickness behind the stumps.
In the IPL 2025 edition, Dhoni was last seen playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined in the middle of the competition after suffering a hairline break to his elbow, and he assumed the captaincy. In spite of his best attempts, CSK came in last for the first time.
