A year ago, Lois Boisson was granted a wildcard entry into the main draw of the French Open, which could have signified her debut at a Grand Slam event. Unfortunately, just days before the tournament commenced, the French international suffered an injury to her left knee, resulting in a torn ACL. This year, the 22-year-old made a remarkable comeback, advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2025 French Open after defeating the No. 3 seed, Jessica Pegula, on Court Philippe Chatrier on Monday.

Boisson rallied from a set down to conclude the match in 2 hours and 40 minutes, securing a victory of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, marking her best performance in her first appearance at a major tournament. In her previous four attempts at the Grand Slam, all at Roland Garros, she was unable to progress beyond the first qualifying round from 2021 to 2023.

In only her second tour-level event, Boisson became the first Frenchwoman to reach the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in eight years, following the achievements of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, who both reached the last eight in 2017. Additionally, she became the lowest-ranked women's singles player to reach a major quarterfinal since Kaia Kanepi, who was ranked 418 during the 2017 US Open.

The French wildcard will compete against the No. 6 seed, Mirra Andreeva, in the quarterfinals. The Russian player triumphed over Daria Kasatkina with a score of 6-3, 6-7 earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, world number two Coco Gauff decisively defeated the Russian 20th seed, Ekaterina Alexandrova, with a score of 6-0, 7-5, as she continues her quest for her first Roland Garros title and second Grand Slam championship. The former US Open champion Gauff is set to face either reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys or unseeded Hailey Baptiste in an all-American quarterfinal.
