Lois Boisson Speaks Out Following Harriet Dart’s Controversial ‘Deodorant’ Remark

Lois Boisson has addressed the controversial remarks made by British tennis player Harriet Dart during a match, which suggested that the French player "needed deodorant."
This incident occurred during an unusual match in April at the Rouen Open in France, where Dart suffered a 6-0 defeat in the first set and was midway through the second set against the local favorite.
During the match, the microphones positioned courtside picked up Dart's unexpected request to the umpire, which she made instead of focusing on her performance: "Tell her to wear deodorant," as she noted, "she's smelling really bad."
Despite this, Dart ultimately lost to the 22-year-old in straight sets. Following the match, she offered her apologies for the outburst, stating that the phrase uttered in the "heat of the moment" was her responsibility.
Lois Boisson reacts to Dart's controversial remarks
Boisson has largely remained quiet regarding the situation in the weeks that have ensued, only making a light-hearted comment when the subject quickly garnered significant attention on social media by asking cosmetics brand Dove to sponsor her.
In the meantime, social media users were quick to call for Dart's apology for her comments; one individual labeled her as "so disrespectful," while others proposed that she ought to be "suspended."
However, Boisson expressed her true feelings about the match on Sunday as she readied herself for her debut in the fourth round of the French Open.
"It was not hard to handle. It was fine. It meant nothing to me. She might have made an error, then I made a joke about it, and that was all," Boisson remarked.
As per Boisson, she "didn't hear" the comments during the match and only learned about the insult "two hours later."
"It was nothing," she reiterated, asserting that the name-calling did not affect her.
Boisson will be aiming to maintain the same level of composure when she faces third-seeded Jessica Pegula on Monday at Roland-Garros' Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The French player, who was granted a wild card for her home tournament, had never progressed this far in a Grand Slam.
Boisson had to miss last year's French Open due to an injury to her anterior cruciate ligament, but she made her return to the tour in 2025.
