In Atlanta on Sunday, Lionel Messi will face his old team when Inter Miami plays PSG in their forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 matchup. Since the Argentine had a bad experience with the Ligue 1 team, his reunion with Messi will be bittersweet. Luis Enrique, Messi's former Barcelona coach, is currently in charge of PSG as well.

In 2023, Messi's stint with PSG came to an unexpected conclusion as, during his final season in France, he was also subjected to jeers from supporters on numerous occasions.

According to media reports, Messi's connection with PSG went downhill when he skipped training to go to Saudi Arabia for a meeting with a sponsor. The action was done without the approval of PSG, and the club also aimed to demonstrate that it was superior to any one person. As a result, Messi was barred by PSG for two weeks and his pay was also reduced for that time.

In a video where his entourage dressed him in an odd way, Messi even begged his teammates for pardon, according to a report from L'Equipe. Additionally, the World Cup champion grew resentful of the hierarchy and dissatisfied with how he was forced to rejoin the team.

Enrique's outstanding performance at the Camp Nou means that the forthcoming gathering may be free of conflict. He coached Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar, who together scored 364 goals and dished out 173 assists. In addition to two La Liga championships, three Copa del Rey titles, and one Champions League title, Barcelona also won nine championships during that period.

"He has been very important to my career," Suarez stated before the game. from him and from simply being around him. Before I played for him, I had a competitive DNA, but he improved it even further.

Given PSG's recent Champions League triumph, Miami will also be considered the underdog in the match.
