The Indian players huddled together, as most teams would do before the start of a session, right before Day 5 began with England prepared to resume their chase of 371 at 21 for no loss. The fascinating thing was what transpired during that group meeting. Rather than captain Shubman Gill or vice-captain Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, who is currently one of the most seasoned Indian players in the XI, was handling all the conversation. Rahul once more joined the action, this time with a more prominent part in the second session, even though it didn't produce any immediate outcomes as Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley frustrated India's bowlers for over a session.

After a rain interruption in the second session, play resumed, and KL Rahul assumed Shubman Gill's responsibilities as captain and began directing the team. The vibe in the Indian camp shifted all of a sudden.

Prasidh Krishna, who bowled from the end typically used by Bumrah, threw one up against his natural style and managed to get some movement as well as the outside edge of Zak Crawley's bat, which had been well-set. Who else but KL Rahul was in the slips to wrap up the formalities?

In comparison to Gill and Rishabh Pant, Rahul has more experience leading at the highest level. After all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, he is the most experienced player in the Indian team and has captained the country in every format.

KL Rahul's advice to Shubman Gill

Rahul had stated before the start of the Anderson-Tendulkar match that he would always be there to assist Gill on the field. "I reached out to Shubman the minute the team was announced, and when he was announced (as) the captain. I told him, 'You will always find me around, any help, any guidance, if you need someone to share something with or talk to, I'm always there." However, I think that in order for individuals to genuinely follow their intuition, they need to have their personal space. I'm always available if they need assistance, Rahul told the Sony Sports Network.

Rahul walked the walk on Day 5 of the first Test in Headingley, when he hit a brilliant century in India's second innings.
