With a fantastic century during India, Karun Nair began his comeback to the national squad. A's unofficial test against England Lions on Friday. The Vidarbha batsman, who had previously been selected for the Indian Test team for the five-match series against England after a hiatus of more than eight years, had a strong showing on the first day of the unofficial Test, scoring his century in little more than 150 balls.

India Nair and Sarfaraz Khan fought back valiantly to put the visitors in charge after A got off to a shaky start on a seamer-friendly pitch.

India A lost both openers within the first hour after being invited to bat first on a gloomy, wet morning. Abhimanyu Easwaran's quest for redemption failed once more when Josh Hull caught him out in front for a miserable eight, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, who appeared compact early on, edged one to the slip cordon off Eddie Jack after a cautious 24. The hosts maintained a strong lead at 38/2.

Nair and Sarfaraz, however, were able to put together a strong 181-run partnership that shifted the game in their favor just as the England Lions seemed to be on the verge of an early lead. Back in the spotlight of the longer format, Nair appeared confident and articulate from the beginning. He established himself by absorbing pressure and displaying his stroke play after reaching a well-paced hundred.

Sarfaraz sparkles

Not selected for India's 18-man team for the England series, Sarfaraz Khan was unfazed by the snub and continued to play his usual aggressive self, breaking the rhythm of the English bowlers by hitting boundaries. Before Hull returned to end the partnership, Sarfaraz launched an onslaught against the bowlers, hitting 13 boundaries in his 92 runs off 124 balls.

Nair continued to anchor the innings, and Dhruv Jurel's arrival gave it even more stability by offering sound assistance. On a surface that had initially given them plenty, the England Lions bowlers were left looking for solutions as India A regained control of the momentum.
