KL Rahul’s Aggressive Approach Backfires, Fans Lament Missed Opportunity

In the first innings of the opening Test match against England at Leeds, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was unimpressed with how KL Rahul was out. On 42, Rahul, who is currently the most experienced batsman in the Indian Test squad, was out after failing to turn his start into a significant score. While facing the new ball in English conditions, the elegant batsman got off to a good start and formed a vital partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. In the first hour, he maintained excellent composure, carefully placing deliveries outside the off stump and avoiding any inclination to play carelessly. But ultimately, his patience ran out, and he pursued a comparable delivery, pushing it directly to Joe Root in the slips.

Pathan lamented Rahul's exit from the game after he was nicely positioned in the middle and playing the flamboyant shots.

For the first time in 39 years, the Indian openers scored over 50 runs in Headingley. As a result, India might not have anticipated a better beginning. But I'll be a little more let down by KL Rahul for the two wickets that fell during the first session, since he doesn't excel at playing flashy strokes," Pathan stated on Sony Sports.

With Jaiswal, Rahul scored 91 runs for the first wicket, hitting 42 of those from 78 balls with eight boundaries.

"Not KL Rahul's forte"

Pathan discussed KL Rahul's dismissal, noting that it wasn't the first time he had been caught out by an excessively attacking stroke. Rahul put in the effort of getting through the new ball, but he squandered a fantastic chance to turn his beginning into a significant score, he said.

"The ball went in the air after he made two or three showy shots, and he could have gotten out there. By the time the wicket fell, you had already prepared. He continued, "You had already sewed together a 91-run partnership, worn out the ball, and broken their spirits."

With his innate style of play, the seasoned all-rounder continued, it makes sense that Jaiswal would execute such a shot. Given the burden on his shoulders and the fact that such impulsive strokes are not characteristic of his usual style, Rahul's dismissal was all the more upsetting.

It was time to reap the benefits. It was a showy shot. Considering that Yashasvi Jaiswal excels at that kind of shot, it would make sense if he had been dismissed while playing it. KL Rahul is not strong in this area. As an opener, you must accept a little bit more responsibility, he said.
