The England and Wales Cricket Board has named the team for the second Test match against India at Edgbaston, as it has brought Jofra Archer back into the lineup. Since February 2021, when he rejoined the England Test team for the first time, the top pacer has battled a number of health problems. India scored five separate centuries in the game, prompting England to bring back Archer in order to improve their bowling assault after winning the first Test.

The ECB kept the 14 players from the first Test and only added Archer to the team. From July 2, 2025, the second game of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will be played.

At the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in March, Archer made his most recent appearance for England in an ODI against South Africa. After a hiatus of four years, he recently returned to first-class cricket, playing for Sussex in a game against Durham where he took one wicket. Archer's Test career to date includes 13 games in which he has taken 42 wickets at an average of 31.

Earlier this month, England selector Luke Wright stated that Jofra Archer might be eligible for selection for the second Test against India the following month, assuming he plays a few matches with Sussex. The 30-year-old is looking forward to returning to Test cricket, Captain Ben Stokes said as well.

Meanwhile, England successfully completed a run chase on the last day, helped by Ben Duckett's outstanding 149 and significant contributions from Jamie Smith, Joe Root, and Zak Crawley. The hosts managed to score 371-run target in 82 overs, ending up with 373/5 and securing a five-wicket win. This was England's second-highest fourth-innings run chase, coming right after their 378-3 victory over India at Edgbaston, shortly after Stokes and McCullum teamed up as captain and coach.

The team representing England in the second test against India is as follows:

Josh Tongue (Nottinghamshire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Jamie Overton (Surrey), Sam Cook (Essex), Brydon Carse (Durham), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Shoaib Bashir (Somerset), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Ben Stokes (Durham), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire)
