Jasprit Bumrah on Harry Brook’s Near Century: ‘Fate Had Other Plans at 99’
5 months ago | 5 Views
In the current opening Test match between India and England in Leeds, Jasprit Bumrah is playing at a very high level. The Indian pacer just gave up 83 runs while picking up five wickets in 24.4 overs. He had such control that he was able to bowl five maiden overs. The MI star had a few intriguing fights, notably with Harry Brook, whom Prasidh Krishna ultimately dismissed for 99.
In an interview with reporters following Day 3, Bumrah said that Brook's dismissal was largely caused by 'fate.' In the first over of Day 3, the English batter smacked Prasidh Krishna for a six before moving down the pitch to smash Bumrah through the covers for an amazing four.
In his second Test on home soil, just as he was about to enter his ninth century in 26 Tests, he ended up dragging Krishna to Shardul Thakur in the deep. Brook was fortunate during his innings as well. In the final over of day two, he was caught off guard by a miscued hook against Bumrah while he was waiting to get off his mark, but a no-ball saved him. He would have left for a duck if it hadn't been a no-ball.

Additionally, Brook was dropped on 46 and 82, and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was unable to take advantage of a slight edge off of spinner Ravindra Jadeja. Even Bumrah was unlucky when Yashasvi Jaiswal ended up dropping a two-handed catch attempt at fourth slip.
"I believe fate had chosen 99 for him, since he was also brought down a few times following the no-ball," Bumrah said.
"However, that should not detract from him. He plays a forceful brand of cricket, has a high opinion of his abilities, and has a thorough understanding of the circumstances. He gives the impression that he is capable of hitting an offensive shot, but he is also capable of shutting down the shop.
“He played extremely well, full credit, and we'll attempt to have better plans in the next innings,” he continued.
In reaction to India's first innings total of 471, Brook's effort helped England score 465. At the end of the second inning, India was 90/2 and ahead by 96 runs.
