James Anderson’s Candid Revelation: Suggests McCullum and Stokes Pushed Him Towards Retirement

England On Wednesday, test great James Anderson shocked the world by announcing his retirement from test cricket, suggesting that he was compelled to do so by head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes' statement that "it's time for them to move on." In the opening Test match against the West Indies at Lord's, Anderson made his last Test appearance on July 10.

In an interview with The Independent, Anderson, 42, said that he might have played Test cricket for another two years and that he was not ready to retire.

"I'm still a little undecided about it. It was one of those things that I couldn't control. They decided that they didn't want me on the team anymore. At the moment, that was quite devastating. In my mind, I was nowhere near retirement and had been getting ready for the upcoming six, twelve, and eighteen months of Test cricket before my most recent Test match. "I still felt I had the desire and desire to play, to put in the effort, the training, and the skill work," he stated.

The seasoned fast bowler, who has 700 Test wickets in 187 matches, was informed in May of last year by ECB managing director Rob Key, McCullum, and Stokes that he is no longer a part of Test cricket's plan. Before his final game the following month, Anderson declared his retirement in the same week. However, having been chosen as the bowling mentor for the remainder of the series, he was now pleased that he was still influencing the England squad.

It would have been harder for me to comprehend everything and accept that it was the end if I had just left the team after that West Indies Test match. I believe it was beneficial for me to be around the team and yet remain in the locker room, where I could still attempt to influence Test matches. I had no idea what to expect from the reaction. On that final day against the West Indies, the field was packed, despite the fact that the last morning only lasted for approximately an hour. The sight of such a throng of people was incredible," he said.

Despite being recruited by the English County squad Lancashire for the current season, Anderson is still a committed cricketer who wants to rejoin the England team, even though he knows that this is unlikely.

"To be honest, I think the door is probably locked." I would give the phone call some consideration, but I don't see it happening. I don't believe it's possible for me to be any farther from there. In order for me to be taken into consideration, I believe there would have to be a significant number of injuries," Anderson said.
