Jadeja’s Stand Not Enough; England Clinch Thriller at Lord’s
4 months ago | 5 Views
2015 Galle. 2018 Edgbaston. 2024 Wankhede and currently 2025 at Lord's. India's demons from the past returned to haunt the nation as the team was unable to chase a realistic score, falling short of the 193-run target in the Lord's Test against England and falling 1-2 behind in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India and England's challenge in the third Test of the five-match series was straightforward as they approached the fifth and last day. With Shubman Gill's India still needing 135 runs, the hosts required six additional wickets. However, as India was bundled out in the second session on Day 5, handing England a 22-run victory, no one could have predicted a complete surrender of this magnitude.
The trio of Mohammed Siraj (4), Jasprit Bumrah (5), and Ravindra Jadeja (61*) gave it their all to aid India's amazing comeback. But just when it seemed that India would score a historic victory, England pulled a rabbit out of the hat. In the England camp, there was ecstasy, but in India's, there was suffering. Despite Jadeja's best efforts, Siraj's dismissal ultimately gave the visitors a terrible outlook.
India's hopes before the start of play on the final day were pinned on KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who had combined for 141 runs for the fourth wicket in the first innings. But England had plans for Rishabh Pant, who was suffering from a hand injury sustained while wicketkeeping in the first innings.
England took their first wicket of the day when Rishabh Pant's (9) stumps were bowled over by Jofra Archer. Ben Stokes' choice to begin with Brydon Carse was questioned by many, but Archer supported the England captain's selection. After a few overs, Ben Stokes rose to the challenge of getting KL Rahul (39), India's top batter, out.
As the ball swung back in sharply, Stokes caught KL Rahul directly on the pads. Stokes had faith in the review, even if the on-field umpire didn't raise his finger. The replays did show that the ball actually struck the pad first, and three reds verified that India's sixth wicket had fallen.
Jofra Archer took his second wicket of the day in the very next over, dismissing Washington Sundar for a four-ball duck. Nitish Kumar Reddy walked out to bat at number nine and demonstrated some skill in the middle with Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja and Nitish Reddy, however, organized a blockathon since scoring runs was challenging. Chris Woakes sent the right-hander packing for 13 off 53 balls, bringing the 30-run stand for the eighth wicket to an end for England just as the lunch break was about to begin.
No one could have predicted at the start of the second session that Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah would form a 132-ball partnership. As the pair scored 37 runs for the ninth wicket, however, this is precisely what transpired. But just as India began to recover, Ben Stokes defended his side by making the key breakthrough, ending Jasprit Bumrah's stay of 54 balls, during which he scored five runs.
The pair continued to nibble away at the objective as Siraj joined Ravindra Jadeja. But Shoaib Bashir managed to take the last wicket, giving England a well-known victory by 22 runs.

The events of the Test match
Everyone was taken aback when England captain Ben Stokes decided to bat first at the start of the Lord's Test. Joe Root's 37th Test century helped the hosts score 387 runs. Jasprit Bumrah earned a spot on the Lord's Honors Board when he returned with five wickets.
There was no difference between India and England after their respective first innings. Each team's first innings score was the same at 387. The match ultimately turned into a second-innings battle. In the first innings for India, KL Rahul scored a century.
As India captain Shubman Gill attacked England opener Zak Crawley for purposely wasting time, tensions reached a breaking point during the last session on Day 3. That was the turning point in the series, and everyone could predict what would happen in the last two days of the Test.
On Day 4, India came out swinging with the ball, and Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah caused mayhem with the red cherry. Despite the efforts of Joe Root and Ben Stokes, England were unable to surpass 200 overall. The off-spinner, Washington Sundar, came off the syllabus for England and took four wickets, including the crucial wickets of Joe Root and Jamie Smith.
India's goal of 193 was established after England finally fell for 192. Brydon Carse and Stokes unleashed their wrath, and England responded with four wickets in the last session of Day 4.
Despite Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy's valiant efforts on the last day, the hosts remained unyielding. The fourth test in Manchester is going to be a blast, as England currently leads the five-game series 2-1.
