Jacob Bethell Pays Tribute to Virat Kohli After Securing England’s Win Over West Indies

Following England's 238-run victory over West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series on Thursday at Edgbaston, Birmingham, the Harry Brook era in white-ball cricket is off to a fantastic start. Jacob Bethell was named Player of the Match for his game-winning innings of 82 runs from 53 deliveries, which included five sixes and eight boundaries. England was able to reach 400/8 in the allotted 50 overs thanks to this knock.
Having won the Player of the Match award, Jacob Bethell thanked Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and his time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, claiming that he is now a superior player to what he was two months prior.
He also discussed Virat Kohli sharing his experiences with him and how the India legend was outstanding in sharing the knowledge. Bethell, who is left-handed, only participated in two games during the IPL 2025 season, hitting 67 runs with a strike rate of 171.79.
Following Phil Salt's two-month absence due to a fever, Bethell was granted an opportunity in the starting XI. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the kid sensation also hit a half-century against the Chennai Super Kings.

But before the ODIs against the West Indies, Bethell went back to England, and Tim Seifert was chosen by RCB to take his place in the playoffs.
"I thought that experience was really helpful to my game. "Two months before I traveled to India, I feel like I was a superior player. I really appreciated Virat Kohli's knowledge and approach to hitting," Bethell told Sky Sports Cricket.
I just had to ask, and he was fantastic at that. It was quite obvious that participating in that competition was an honor. It was fantastic to be a part of it because there was a lot of commotion around it, he said.
"I could feel the vibe"
The experience of batting with Kohli in the top order was also discussed by Jacob Bethell. He claimed that he could sense the energy and would work to add intensity to his game in the future.
After I signed that contract, I was always going to be in the IPL, Bethell said on the BBC Test Match Special. From a distance, I could see that the lads were doing well, and I loved it.
"Virat was fantastic." Andy Flower was also a fantastic coach, and he was glad to give me plenty of guidance. I'll bring that intensity into my game because I could feel the energy when Virat and I went out to bat," he said.
The former recorded a resounding victory in the inaugural ODI between England and the West Indies, dismissing the visitors for a paltry 162 runs in just 27 overs. Jamie Overton came back with three wickets for England.
In addition, RCB defeated Punjab Kings by eight wickets in Mullanpur on the same day, advancing to their fourth IPL final.
