India’s Bowling Coach Morkel Sees Exciting Bowling Option in Nitish Reddy for England Tests

With Jasprit Bumrah's workload management posing a dilemma, India is looking for other fast bowling choices, and bowling coach Morne Morkel appears to have one in mind. With the pivotal England Test series upcoming, the former South African national thinks his selection can produce the "magical" deliveries required to swing the game in India's favor.
Nitish Kumar Reddy had previously been supported by head coach Gautam Gambhir for a Test call-up, particularly in the aftermath of India's embarrassing home series defeat against New Zealand in November of last year. Reddy, who was touted as the next Hardik Pandya, made a great impression with the bat in Australia, even hitting a century at the MCG. But throughout the series, he bowled only a few overs—a total of 44 overs for five wickets across nine innings.
Morkel sees promise in Reddy's diverse pacing despite a lackluster performance in the two games against the England Lions, where he took two wickets in 26.5 overs.
During India's training session, Morkel stated, "I think he (Reddy) is talented. He can bowl that amazing ball." "It's about establishing consistency – that's what we want to focus on. It matters a lot for his game.
In addition, Morkel said he's asked Reddy to assume a greater bowling role.

"We all know what he can do with the bat. However, he becomes a really intriguing choice in these circumstances if he can provide us anything with the ball.
When questioned if this meant that Reddy, a more established seaming option, could be chosen over Shardul Thakur. Morkel remained noncommittal.
"We're really pleased with the balance. However, it will be crucial for the bowling group to discover that additional pace for Test cricket.”
He concluded by emphasizing how crucial preparation is:
"We haven't played Tests in a while. In England, the conditions can be beneficial for batting surfaces, particularly when it’s cloudy. We're therefore focusing on that Test-match fitness and sharpness.
