Prior to the upcoming second match of the five-match series between India and England in Edgbaston, Birmingham, a significant security risk arose. A suspicious package was discovered at Centenary Square on Tuesday, prompting Shubman Gill and his party, who are residing in the center of Birmingham, to be instructed to remain inside. Following an X message from the Birmingham City Centre Police, the whole Indian team was instructed to remain inside, according to the PTI news agency.

The Indian players have been exploring the neighborhoods around the team hotel ever since they arrived in the UK. The Indian players were seen touring Broad Street in advance of the second Test, which will begin on Wednesday, July 2.

"We have a cordon in place around Centenary Square in Birmingham City Centre as we look into a suspect package," Birmingham City Centre Police stated in a message on X (formerly Twitter).

The article said, "We were notified shortly before 3 PM, and several structures have been evacuated as a precaution while it's assessed. Please avoid the area."

PTI reports that eight players, including captain Shubman Gill, showed up for practice at the field on Tuesday, while ten others took the day off.

Following a five-wicket defeat in the series opener at Leeds, India has plenty to play for in the Edgbaston Test. The visitors' Jasprit Bumrah's participation is still up in the air.

Tuesday's pre-match press conference was conducted by Shubman Gill. When asked about Bumrah's availability for the game, he replied that the decision would be made after seeing the field.

"We're going to take one last look at the pitch today and see what kind of combination we want to go with," Gill stated.

India's history at Edgbaston is not good; they have never won a Test match there while traveling. India has suffered seven defeats and one draw in the remaining eight Tests.
