Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur called the 2025 edition extra special, citing the massive fan support expected in local stadiums. Highlighting how the women’s game has grown, she said, “Every team in this World Cup has an equal chance to win, which shows how much we have raised the standard of women’s cricket. A home World Cup is always special, and we’ve also started seeing packed stadiums, which we truly enjoy.”

Sri Lanka’s inspirational captain Chamari Athapaththu, meanwhile, looked forward to turning the home-soil advantage into motivation. “Many Sri Lankans will come out to support us, and I hope the World Cup brings a vibrant atmosphere in the stadiums,” she remarked.

Defending Champions Speak of Tougher Competition

Australia, the record-winning side in women’s cricket, are preparing for perhaps their hardest challenge yet. Captain Alyssa Healy admitted the depth of competition has grown stronger than ever: “I believe this is going to be the toughest World Cup we’ve ever been a part of. South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt echoed similar sentiments, underlining that there were no underdogs anymore. “Every team is a big team. It’s wide open for anyone to take it,” she said, reflecting on just how balanced women’s cricket has become.

Rising Confidence and Fan Support

New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine, fresh from leading the White Ferns to the 2024 T20 World Cup win, showed confidence in her side’s ability to deliver in big tournaments. She also highlighted the rapid growth of women’s cricket across the globe, saying, “It’s crazy to think how many opportunities are now available compared to the start of my career.”

England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt pointed towards India’s unmatched passion for the sport, saying the enormous crowds expected in Indian venues will bring “a different energy, another level to the game.”

Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana Joty and Pakistan’s Fatima Sana also emphasised the responsibility to inspire fans in their home countries, reflecting the increasing role women’s cricket plays in shaping sporting aspirations across South Asia.

The opening encounter on September 30 will see India take on Sri Lanka in Guwahati, setting the tone for a tournament spread across five venues – Guwahati, Indore, Navi Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo.
