How Missing the Paris Olympics Final Motivated Sift Kaur Samra to Win Bronze at ISSF World Cup

Sift Kaur Samra continued to perform well, winning a bronze medal in the women's 50m rifle three positions competition at the ISSF World Cup on Thursday. Samra, who is 23 years old, is also the current world record holder in the women's 50m rifle three positions event, a record she established while winning the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games.
She won bronze in the eight-player final with a score of 453.1. Emely Jaeggi of Switzerland took silver (464.8), while Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway took gold with 466.9
Samra was initially tied for third place with American Sagen Maddalena. They first tied at 411.6 points.
"Yes, I was aware that we both (she and Sagen Maddalena) were tied at the end of the first elimination series." I was fourth throughout the end of that series, with the same top three shooters. And I was certain that the medal was within my reach. I had no idea Maddalena was the silver medalist at the Paris Olympics.

"Missing the final in Paris, despite having played in a number of finals together, meant that I had no interest in who won the medal. And even if I were to know, I would still have to do the shooting, and it would all be up to me. I'm happy to be winning a medal at the Munich World Cup again this year, as I did last year.
"Since kneeling is the first position, shooters are sometimes edgy or nervous too and sometimes shooters take time to understand the wind," national rifle coach Deepali Deshpande said when discussing Samra's shooting technique. Sift took some time to grasp the kneeling posture at the beginning of her career, but she later improved it. Sift demonstrated great skill today, even if today's final range was a closed one.
"We've been focusing on decreasing movement between the two shots, maintaining minimal head movement during kneeling loading and unloading, and achieving balance with the sling." Indeed, starting in 2026, finals will only be about standing, but kneeling will then be the first step in the qualification process, he continued.
