In Qualifier 2, the Punjab Kings defeated five-time champions Mumbai Indians thanks to captain Shreyas Iyer's amazing, undefeated 87 off 41 balls, securing their first spot in the IPL final in ten years. Iyer's carnage, which included eight massive sixes, led Punjab to a five-wicket victory with six balls remaining while chasing 204. The win sets up an enticing championship match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, ensuring a fresh IPL champion in the league's 18th season.

The loss hit Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya hard. Hardik collapsed to his knees, visibly devastated, when Shreyas Iyer hit the game-winning six to secure a spot in the championship. As the impact of the loss hit him, he stood still.

Eventually, Jasprit Bumrah walked over, softly tugging Hardik to his feet and pushing him in the direction of the post-match handshake.

Hardik further praised Shreyas Iyer for his brilliant performance under pressure. "Some of the shots Shreyas made were truly amazing, and he also took risks and batted well. “I think they certainly batted really well,” Hardik stated in the post-match presentation.

Josh Inglis led the charge for PBKS early on, scoring 20 runs against Jasprit Bumrah in a pivotal over before being out for a quick 38 off 21 pitches. Nehal Wadhera and Iyer took full advantage of the momentum shift that it paved the way for.

With an 84-run partnership in only 7.5 overs, Punjab took command. Iyer's command at the other end was complemented by Wadhera's 48 off 29 balls. After becoming comfortable, the captain effortlessly switched gears, ending the game with an over to spare.

Based on strong middle-order contributions, the Mumbai Indians had earlier in the evening scored 203/6. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav helped to stabilize the innings with beautiful innings of 44 apiece after Jonny Bairstow's aggressive 38 at the top. Before Naman Dhir's explosive 18-ball 37 gave late impetus, the duo's 72-run stand for the third wicket laid the groundwork.

However, the Punjab bowling attack, led by Chahal, Jamieson, and Vyshak, continued to make important breakthroughs, preventing MI from dominating the contest. Ultimately, it was Iyer's masterclass that won the night and paved the way for Punjab's historic journey into the championship.
