Karun Nair should be given a fair opportunity and a long leash, as Shubman Gill and KL Rahul received, according to veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has voiced his support for Nair. With a string of mediocre scores—0, 20, 31, 26, 40, and 14—Karun has not been able to make an impression in the first three Tests against England. The total of his runs is only 131, and his average is less than 22. As a result of a string of bad scores, his place in the team has been under more and more investigation, and there is an increasing sense that he may be running out of time to establish himself.

Karun Nair should be given a fair chance, just like Shubman and Rahul, who were given time to settle into the squad, Harbhajan stressed, adding that every player deserves a fair opportunity.

"Yes, Karun hasn't scored runs, but give him a chance and stick with him for a while. Every player should be treated equally. "Karun deserves it now, and the likes of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul deserved it in the past," Harbhajan stated on his YouTube channel.

After waiting eight years for another opportunity, it was difficult for Nair to return to the Indian Test team. Following an outstanding 2024–25 campaign on home soil, he was recalled. In nine Ranji Trophy matches for Vidarbha, he amassed 863 runs at an average of about 54 runs, including a century in the championship game against Kerala. He was in amazing form during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, hitting 779 runs in just eight innings at a mind-blowing average of 389.50 with five century.

It wasn't fair to only give Sai Sudharsan one chance.

Harbhajan acknowledged that Sai Sudharsan's sole opportunity was unfair, but now that Nair has had three opportunities, the management should stick with him.

"Therefore, the requirements ought to be consistent for all. What crime did Karun commit if others only experienced five or six changes? I don't think Sai Sudharsan was given enough of an opportunity, but now that you have stuck with Karun this far, then play him here was well," he continued.
