Glenn Maxwell’s American Power Surge: Blasts Maiden MLC Ton with Record 13 Sixes After Cautious Start

In his outstanding century against the Los Angeles Knight Riders at the Oakland Coliseum, California, Glenn Maxwell brought the Major League Cricket to life. For the first time in MLC, the Aussie all-rounder hit the triple-figure mark by smashing 13 sixes against the LA balls all over the field. Although the Big Show just announced his retirement from ODIs at the age of 36, California fans got to see him perform exceptionally.
In the MLC game on Wednesday, Maxwell's fantastic innings helped ensure that Washington Freedom scored a massive total after he won the toss and chose to bat first. The Australian star batted at number 6 and began slowly, scoring 11 runs off 15 balls, before unleashing havoc in the over of his national teammate Tanveer Sangha. In the 14th over of the innings, Maxwell took on the leg-spinner with a hat-trick of sixes for cleaners.
The 36-year-old shifted into top gear after starting off with 11 in 15 balls and then blasting 89 runs off just 37 balls to reach his century in a blistering 48 deliveries. His electrifying knock of 106 off 49 balls featured a staggering 13 sixes and 2 fours.
Maxwell put forth an amazing effort to lead his team to victory over the Los Angeles bowlers in the slog overs and propel Washington over the 200 mark.
He put together an unbroken 116-run partnership for the sixth wicket, in which Obus Pienaar flawlessly played the supporting role by just switching strike to maintain Maxwell on strike. Washington scored 208/5 in 20 overs, thanks to the USA hitter, who anchored one end with 14 runs off 15 balls, while his captain launched a devastating attack on the bowlers.
Delighted that his parents saw his amazing knock, the Australian celebrity discussed it during the inning break.
"Arrived in somewhat different circumstances, had to bat differently, began quite slowly but once I thought we needed a few more runs, I took my shots and it came off. At that point, all we had to do was stall for time. I was hoping that Chapman and I might be able to hit it deep, perhaps focus on the final five or six overs, and play around with the field. It's rather neat. It's great to have them here since they (his parents) don't get to witness me creating runs very often," Maxwell said to the broadcasters.
