Gill Under Fire After Lord’s Collapse, Ex-India Player Reacts
4 months ago | 5 Views
Mohammad Kaif, a former cricketer, has criticized Shubman Gill's demeanor on the field, saying that the Indian captain's spat with Zak Crawley at Lord's ignited England. In the closing seconds of Day 3 at Lord's, there was a furious argument between the Indian captain and England opener Crawley.
Gill tried to fit in one more over before stumps after India matched England's first innings score. Nevertheless, Crawley seemed to intentionally slow things down by repeatedly stepping away from the crease and requesting the physio after being hit on the glove, which infuriated the Indian captain and pacer Jasprit Bumrah. During the heated argument, Gill didn't hold back and used some harsh language for the English start. On Day 4, the Indian bowlers did hunt as a group to dismiss England for 192 in their second innings, but they were unable to chase down the score and were 22 runs behind. With a clearly more aggressive attitude, intent on placing pressure on the Indian batsmen, Ben Stokes and his colleagues entered Day 5 and were successful in doing so.
As he urged the Indian captain to maintain the kind of demeanor that works for him, Kaif didn't hold back and placed the blame on Gill's battle for England getting charged up.
Shubman Gill's battle against Zak Crawley energized England. Their captaincy, bowling, and hitting were all subject to doubt following Edgbaston. However, that occurrence energized Stokes, and he produced a compelling performance. Maintain the mindset that works for you, as it is prudent to do so. Kaif posted on X that Gill would learn this the hard way.
India failed to chase 193 at Lord's
In the meantime, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah worked hard to put together a 35-run partnership for the ninth wicket throughout 22 overs in order to reach a goal of 193. Following Bumrah's dismissal, Jadeja was supported by Mohammed Siraj, and the pair extended the game into the final session by scoring an additional 23 runs in 13 overs.
Siraj was bowled after dragging one onto his stumps, bringing India within 5.1 overs of compelling England to accept the second new ball. The tourists were left to rue what might have been as they fell heartbreakingly short by 22 runs and fell behind in the five-match series 2-1.
"When Bumrah Bhai and Jaddu Bhai were batting, you could see the pressure building on them (England) every five or six runs," Shubman Gill said, as he thought back on the tense conclusion. It was nothing more than a series of minor collaborations.
