Gill Dodges Bumrah Query as Akash, Siraj Shine
5 months ago | 5 Views
India recorded their first Test win at Edgbaston by 366 runs, thanks in part to Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, who each took 16 wickets between them in Jasprit Bumrah's absence. With 6/70, Siraj was the star with the ball in the first innings, and Akash's 4/88 provided excellent help. After missing a five-wicket haul in the first innings, Akash took 6/90 in the second innings, while Siraj took one, and it was now Akash's turn to haunt England. In conclusion, India accomplished something that nobody had anticipated: with Bumrah absent, the fast bowlers took over. That was, at least, the situation a few months ago in Australia and at Leeds.
Therefore, the inevitable question posed to Shubman Gill, the victorious captain, after India ultimately crossed the finish line, was, "Will Jasprit Bumrah play at Lord's?" In truth, there was no question at all. The solution was already established. The fact that Bumrah was scheduled to return at Lord's is the reason he didn't play at Edgbaston. Therefore, it was just a formality when Gill announced that Bumrah would be available for the upcoming game, which begins on Thursday.

Bumrah will return, according to Gill
Michael Atherton questioned him during the post-match presentation ceremony, and he responded with a resounding "Yes." Cheteshwar Pujara, a seasoned Indian batsman, questioned Gill twice more about this. Even though he had great appreciation for Akash and Siraj, his response remained the same.
"It was remarkable. Being a captain is simple when your two speed bowlers take 17 wickets. (As captain, things become simple when two of your pacers work together to capture 17 wickets.) Even though [Jasprit] Bumrah wasn't in this game, I believe India has sufficient ability. We have selected the top bowlers in our nation for our squad. And they all have the potential to capture 20 wickets in any circumstance."
