Gavaskar Finds Gill Reminiscent of Three Great Leaders, Overlooking Kohli, Rohit, Dhoni

Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary batsman, has compared Shubman Gill's leadership qualities to those of other Indian captains who have guided India to Test series victories in England. Gavaskar singled out the unique qualities that connected these captains—calm, composed leadership—in his discussion of India's unusual Test series wins in England under Ajit Wadekar in 1971, Kapil Dev in 1986, and Rahul Dravid in 2007. In the meanwhile, India has put up a strong battle against England in the series thus far under Shubman's leadership, but after the first three Tests, they are still behind 1-2 and now looking to make a comeback in the final two games.
According to Gavaskar, all three captains had a calm and collected demeanor, which he believes was instrumental in leading India to those unforgettable series victories in England.
"It may be relevant to mention that India has only ever won a Test series in England three times. under Ajit Wadekar in 1971, Kapil Dev in 1986, and Rahul Dravid in 2007. One might only wish for all three to be the best captains possible. In his Mid-day column, Gavaskar wrote about the laconic manner of Wadekar, the rip-roaring but disciplined manner of Kapil, and the intense and deliberate approach of Dravid.

"In Birmingham, Shubman Gill resembled a fusion of these three things.
Following Rohit Sharma's abrupt retirement from the Test format, Gill assumed command of the captaincy. There was a lot of discussion about his batting style in the red-ball format prior to the series. As the young captain strives to establish himself in this new position, his leadership of the team is still being watched, even if he has responded to those doubts with the bat with two centuries and a double century.
In Birmingham, where India won decisively by leading from the front, Gavaskar claimed that Guill resembled a combination of Wadekar, Kapil, and Dravid.
“Whatever the circumstance, these three never got thrilled, and that serenity was contagious. In Birmingham, Shubman Gill seemed to be a combination of these three individuals. He was intense and famous when he scored a double century and a century, and he was equally explosive and insightful when his bowlers tore through the England batting lineup in both innings," he said.
