Gautam Gambhir Snubs Gavaskar's Plea, Doubles Down on Bumrah Stand
5 months ago | 5 Views
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar pleaded with Jasprit Bumrah to participate in all five Test games against England during the current trip because of the evident holes in the Indian pace attack. Following the team's five-wicket defeat in the first game in Leeds, India head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered a new judgment, while the quick bowler remained silent about the possibility.
While Bumrah was taking five wickets in the opening innings, Gavaskar made his remarks. He unilaterally established the conditions for India and prevented England from taking the initiative in its own nation. However, the remaining five wickets for 283 runs were taken by the other pacemen—Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj—after he took five for 83 in India's first bowling inning
To help Bumrah handle his workload and ongoing battle with back problems, which had plagued him as recently as this year's trip to Australia, it was originally intended that he only play three games in England. Because of a back spasm during the Sydney Test, the 31-year-old was unable to compete in the Champions Trophy.
Gambhir said that India's strategy would not change, even if he didn't know which two other games Bumrah would be playing, despite the fact that his wife Sanjana Ganesan had made him aware of Gavaskar's plea and Bumrah had remained silent.

"Because there is a lot of cricket ahead and we know what Bumrah brings to the table as well, I believe it's more important for us to manage his workload," Gambhir stated.
"So before he came on this tour, it had already been decided that he would play three Test matches, but let's see how his body turns up. However, we haven't made up our minds on the other two Test games he will be playing.
In the last innings of the game at Headingley, Bumrah was unable to take a single wicket, which enabled England to successfully chase down the enormous victory total of 371 and win.
Amid criticism throughout the five days of the test match, Gambhir also defended India's bowling assault.
In defense of his bowling squad, Gambhir stated, "This bowling attack has one bowler with five Tests under his belt, one with four, one has played two, and one has yet to make his debut."
"We must give them time.
In the past, our team featured four pace bowlers with over 40 Test matches of experience. Experience is more important when playing Tests in Australia, England, or South Africa than in one-day or T20 games. This is still in the early stages.
How can we build a bowling attack if we begin to evaluate our bowlers after each Test? We don't have a lot of expertise outside of Bumrah and (Mohammad) Siraj, but they do have quality, which is why they are in this locker room. However, we must continue to support them since it's not about a single trip. The goal is to create a team of quick bowlers that can represent India in Test cricket for many years.
