Among the detractors who warned Gautam Gambhir when the team management decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah for the second test against England was former India head coach Ravi Shastri. Despite the Birmingham game occurring just one week after the Leeds opener, where Bumrah was the star bowler with a five-wicket haul, India's decision to bench him in order to control his workload perplexed him.

However, Shastri was forced to eat his own words when India orchestrated an incredible turnaround at Edgbaston with a dominating performance. As India defeated England by 336 runs—their greatest victory ever on foreign land—Akash Deep, who took Bumrah's place in the lineup, finished with a t10-wicket match haul, including a six-fer in the second innings, while Captain Shubman Gill led the batting charge with his combined record score of 430 runs—259 and 161 respectively.

Following the triumph, the camera shifted to Gambhir, who was flashing a rare smile, in the commentary booth where Shastri was speaking. After India managed to maintain the series alive, the commentator criticized Gambhir, claiming he deserved every bit of it.

"You don't see that smile too often, but he deserves every bit of it," Shastri remarked. A coach feels at their best when their team rebounds almost immediately to maintain the series.

Bumrah set for return

Mohammed Siraj and Akash stepped up in Bumrah's absence, taking 16 of the 20 wickets that fell, which was one of the highlights of India's historic win in Birmingham, their first at the site in 19 tries. India established the tone early in their total defense with the new ball throughout the two innings, with six of them.

"The pacers were magnificent, and I think it was crucial for us to be able to get through the top-order. Both of those bowlers, as well as Prasidh, who didn't take as many wickets as they did, bowled exceptionally well." He put his whole heart into his bowling (Akash Deep). "Definitely (Bumrah returned to Lord's?). I'm really looking forward to that Lord's Test. He continued, "It's probably the most famous cricket ground in the world, and as a child, you dream of playing there. I don't think there's a greater privilege than being able to lead your team and captain your nation."

It is possible that Bumrah will take Prasidh Krishna's place in the next game, which may be India's sole lineup alteration.
