Frustrated Sammy Challenges Referee Srinath on Umpiring Standards in WI-AUS Test

Following a controversial umpire call that shook the current Barbados Test match against Australia, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy went to match referee Javagal Srinath. On the second day of the three-match series' first Test, a number of rulings went against the home team, prompting scrutiny of Adrian Holdstock, the third umpire.
After the conclusion of the second day of play, the West Indies coach met with the match referee to discuss the choices made, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. He also said that the recent ODI series against England, where he served as the TV umpire for two matches and was on the field for one, was when his worries about Holdstock first began.
Two significant choices were made against the West Indies on the second day of the first Test. Although replays revealed that the West Indies captain had an inside edge, Roston Chase was first declared LBW off Pat Cummins' delivery.
But after Alex Carey made a remarkable catch, Shai Hope was asked to walk back. Replays, though, revealed that the Australian wicketkeeper might have dropped the ball on the ground.
"We are merely attempting to comprehend the procedure in some manner. All we ask for is consistency. "That's all we could ask for. When in doubt, just be consistent across the board," Sammy was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
"It's something that for me started in England, especially with this particular umpire, and it's annoying. I just want uniformity in the way judgments are made," he continued.

Will the West Indies submit a formal protest?
When questioned about whether the hosts are thinking about filing a formal protest against Adrian Holdstock, Daren Sammy also kept the door open. "You'll have to wait and see," he said.
But the Windies coach emphasized that his primary goal is to get clarification rather than single out any one person.
"Look, you don't want to find yourself in a scenario where you're questioning some referees. Although the team has many decisions to make, one has to wonder whether there are any biases against it. I'm sure he's here for the entire season. "You don't want to enter a Test match with that question," Sammy stated.
So I want to discuss the procedure with you so that we may be all clear. Since you don't want to enter a Test match without confidence in the umpires at the end of the day. And that's not what our team is all about. Therefore, we are only seeking clarity regarding the choices, he said.
Daren Sammy added that he was conscious of the danger of criticizing match officials in public and that he didn't want his players to comment on the rulings after the end of Day 2 play.
"We know the rules. We know that fines are applied equally across the board," he stated.
"I don't want them to concentrate on that." Although we're sort of shooting ourselves in the foot by dropping so many catches, look at the Test match, [us] against our own selves, some of these choices, and we're still in a position to win," Sammy said.
With the tourists ahead by 82, Australia's score in the first Test at Stumps on Day 2 was 92/4. Travis Head and Beau Webster are presently not out, with scores of 19 and 13, respectively.
