Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan defeated Jack Draper of Britain in the fourth-round match at the 2025 French Open on Court Suzanne-Lenglen to advance to his first Grand Slam quarterfinal on Monday, winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. When Bublik competes against either world at the Roland Garros, he will be attempting to prolong his amazing streak. In the quarterfinals, either No. 1 Jannik Sinner or No. 17 seed Andrey Rublev.

Bublik, the lone Kazakh athlete to ever make it to a Slam quarterfinal in men's singles, broke down in tears as he collapsed to the ground after the victory. With the red brick covering his entire face, he then approached the net with a big smile and embraced Draper, who gave him his congratulations.

After a successful season so far, which included winning the Indian Wells championship and reaching the Madrid Open final, Draper was a significant favorite, having never advanced past the first round in Paris until this year. However, Bublik pulled off an amazing performance, hitting a barrage of drop shots (37), 12 of which were winners, and ultimately securing the victory in a spectacular final game, in which Draper missed five break points on his second match point.

"You know, sometimes in life there is only one chance and I had the feeling that today was mine, I was not going to let it slide," a tearful Bublik remarked on the court.

The greatest moment of my life is now, without a doubt. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, that's wonderful," he said to the audience, who responded with shouts of "Bubu, Bubu!"

I'm acting as if I won the competition. I'm a professional tennis player, I have one more game, and I need to be prepared, so please leave me alone; I can't cry here.

The world 62, who has fallen from a career-high of 17th last year, has never advanced past the fourth round of any Slam. He only made it to the second round of his Paris performances, which he accomplished four times throughout his career.

Novak Djokovic won his fourth-round match against Cam Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 earlier in the evening, keeping his chances alive for an unparalleled 25th major. He won his 100th career match at the French Open, a number that only Rafael Nadal has exceeded among men. The Slam now has him at 100-16. A match against No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev on Wednesday for a spot in the semifinals is Djokovic's next challenge.
