Former BCCI Selector Backs Emerging Talent to Step into Virat Kohli’s Number 4 Role: ‘Ideal for Dual Role’

By proposing a well-known candidate, former BCCI chief selector Saba Karim has rekindled the current discussion over India's no. 4 position in the red-ball series against England. Karim has selected KL Rahul to step into the huge void left by Virat Kohli's retirement in the Test series against England, despite numerous people proposing Shubman Gill and Karun Nair for the major position. Rahul has a good batting average in England, having scored 614 runs in nine Tests at an average of 34.11, which includes two centuries scored while coping with the challenges of the English climate.
Last month, Kohli shocked supporters by declaring his retirement from Test cricket, where he had held the No. 4 position for more than ten years. Many people were surprised by the choice because he was generally assumed to be included in India's lineup for the forthcoming tour of England.
Rahul has demonstrated his batting credentials in English conditions, and Karim believes he has the proper technique to replace Kohli.
"Well, Rahul has a crucial role in Kohli's absence. Furthermore, I see him as a player who can bat at number four. Although numerous batting positions have been proposed, I believe that KL is the best candidate to succeed or assume Virat Kohli's role at number four. He can play two roles: overcoming any early setbacks India may experience and then advancing the innings. He does possess the proper sort of technique. "He has done well in England," Karim told NDTV.

"KL Rahul has the right temperament."
He has already demonstrated promising performance in the second unofficial Test against the England Lions by scoring 116 and 51 and displaying his typical technical skill and cool demeanor at the wicket.
Karim also commended Rahul's recent seasons' show of maturity. He has demonstrated both versatility and the capacity to adjust to the demands of the team, whether that involves starting the innings or entering the middle order.
"He has a temperament." And I believe there is a lot of maturity that has developed over the last season, season and a half. Therefore, in my opinion, that's the type of accountability associated with the management of the Indian team."
