India's main weapon for its five-game trip to England will be Jasprit Bumrah. The England batting lineup will be acutely aware of the possibility that their spearhead pacer will be a game-changing player even if he is unable to participate in all five games.

In the first Test match at Headingley, Ollie Pope will have the unenviable job of facing the new ball against Bumrah in the No. 3 spot, where he has traditionally struggled against him. Pope has been fired out by Bumrah five times in Test cricket, amassing only 186 runs—an average of under 19.

Pope told The Times that he is considering making technological adjustments to counter Bumrah. He highlighted a previous trigger to counter Bumrah's awkward release point and fast pace, which he believes is Bumrah's greatest challenge as a bowler.

"Perhaps I should get my trigger in a little sooner to give myself more time." The vice-captain of England stated, "He's one of those bowlers that doesn't always clock the high speeds that some of the guys clock, but it certainly feels like it's that bit quicker due to his action and where he releases it from." "With the skills he's got as well, it's being aware of that."

Pope's history of battles against Bumrah

Some well-known dismissals have been part of Pope's battle, including the inch-perfect yorker that caused the batter and stumps to fall to the ground. From the number of times they have faced off, Pope was aware of the threat Bumrah poses to all facets of the game because he hasn't had the best track record.

"I believe I've played him in maybe three different series at this point, and you're always looking for ways to put him under some pressure. He can bowl 20 overs in a single day, which is a lot. In cricket, Pope had told TalkSport that you want to be able to take the pressure when you need it, and then, if necessary, attempt to apply a little bit of pressure to the other guy.

Bumrah is expected to participate in the first game of the series in Leeds, even though he will probably take some breaks during the series. The key to dealing with Bumrah, according to Pope, was to figure out how to get runs off of him and not let him dominate the strike.

"However, attempting to hit him to the boundary is not what this means." It might be a rolling strike. I'm thinking, "Okay, how can I rotate and get to the other end?" if he's bowling a good spell. My partner is thinking the same, so Bumrah doesn't use all of his skills to throw six balls at you in a row. Pope said that he is one of the top bowlers in the world, if not the best.
