England Star: India’s Test Hopes Hit Hard Without Kohli, Rohit as Shubman Gill Takes the Helm
5 months ago | 5 Views
With the selection of Shubman Gill as the new captain of the red ball team, the upcoming five-match Test series in England will see a new generation of Indian cricketers assume the helm. Recently, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from the Test format, and they are no longer a part of the Test squad. In the meanwhile, R Ashwin has declared his retirement from every format.
Brydon Carse of England, who is scheduled to make his home test debut, spoke about the absence of Kohli and Rohit, saying that it would be a significant loss for India but that it would still be difficult to play the visitors.
"Look, obviously, Virat and Sharma are massive losses for their batting line-up," he told PTI. "They've been experienced players over a number of years and, you know, world-class batters."

"However, the depth of Indian cricket and the talent and players coming through, you know, they will undoubtedly field a very strong 11, and we are prepared for any challenge that may arise."
The Indian batting lineup will also have a fresh look, particularly the top order. Sai Sudharsan is expected to make his debut and is also anticipated to start the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The comeback king Karun Nair, on the other hand, is also vying for a spot in the top order.
"Yeah, look, I mean, they're quality players," Carse said. Once more, it depends on the surface, you know. In my opinion, any batter you're bowling at, whether it's with a new ball or with their first 20 pitches, is likely to get out.
"Therefore, we will have plans and processes in place to, of course, knock over any of their top-order batsmen as quickly as we can whenever we have an opportunity," he continued.
Leeds will host the first Test, where Carse will also be playing in his first red-ball game on English soil. Carse is also a member of the starting lineup.
