Following Portugal's 5-3 victory against Spain in a penalty shootout to win their second Nations League championship on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo kneeled down with his face on the ground. Prior to the thrilling 2-2 tie in the final, the 40-year-old had scored earlier in the game.

Alvaro Morata's miss was costly for Spain, as Ronaldo tied the game with his 138th international goal and led Portugal to a shootout.

Shortly after the last penalty, CR7 dropped to his knees and wept. 

At the Allianz Arena, Ruben Neves converted the game-winning penalty kick, igniting festivities for Portugal. Earlier in the match, Neves scored his team's fifth penalty to secure the victory, while goalkeeper Diogo Costa had stopped Morata's fourth penalty for Spain.

Ronaldo's equalizer, which maintained Portugal in the game after Spain had taken the lead at halftime thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal. In the 45th minute, the Spanish winger nutmegged Costa after receiving a pass from Pedri. After Lamine Yamal's cross, Martin Zubimendi tapped in to expose Portugal's weak defense in the 21st minute, breaking the stalemate. Five minutes later, Nuno Mendes scored when he struck a low shot inside the far post.

With a 2-0 victory against host nation Germany in Stuttgart, Kylian Mbappé guided France to third position earlier.
