Djokovic’s ‘Nasty Fall’ at Wimbledon Raises Fears Ahead of Sinner Showdown—Injury Update Pending

After experiencing a "nasty fall" during his quarterfinal triumph over Flavio Cobolli, Novak Djokovic raised serious concerns about his involvement in the semifinals of the 2025 Wimbledon tournament. On match point, the No. 6 seed had fallen close to the baseline, and the umpire and his opponent had run to check on him.

The Italian was defeated by Djokovic in a match that ended 6-7(6) 6-2 7-5 6-4. However, it was his alarming remark during the post-match exchange that raised concerns. The Serb said he is waiting to see how his body reacts before making a decision on his semifinal game against the rest of the world. Jannik Sinner is ranked first.

"It was a nasty fall in terms of the fall," Djokovic said after chuckling it out in an on-court discussion. It was quite uncomfortable. That occurs on the grass. I've experienced a lot of those during my career on grass courts.

"It's clear that the body is not the same as it was before, so I believe I will experience the full force or consequences of what transpired tomorrow. Let's take a look then.

"I'm hoping that the seriousness of what was happening on the court and what occurred over the next 24–48 hours isn't too severe, and that in two days I'll be able to play at my best and without any discomfort."

With the 38-year-old standing just two wins away from matching Roger Federer's all-time record of eight Wimbledon championships and an astounding 25th career major, Djokovic will need to be in peak physical condition to defeat Sinner on the Centre Court on Friday. In the Open Era, he would become the oldest Grand Slam champion if he were to win that title. In the French Open last month, Djokovic was defeated by Sinner in straight sets.

At Wimbledon, Djokovic acknowledged earlier this week that he has the best opportunity to break Carlos Alcaraz-Sinner's supremacy and win his first Slam since the US Open in 2023.

"Indeed, it is motivation. Regarding the possibility of winning a quarter-century's worth of Grand Slam titles, he remarked, "It's a given."

"We don't even need to discuss it in order for me to experience the importance of the moment. Naturally, I know how to put myself in a position where I can compete in the semifinals against the top player in the world.

He continued, "I have about 10 people in my team working on every aspect of my on-court, off-court career and preparation and recovery on a daily basis." I occasionally grow weary of the numerous tasks I must complete every day in order to prepare my body for action. I spend many hours in the gym, at the table, or off the court, simply attempting to make do with what I have.

"Look, at 38 years old, I'm really happy with the way I'm able to move, that I'm moving and playing right now, so..."
