The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were blamed for the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, in which 11 people died and more than 50 others were wounded, in a report that the Karnataka government presented to the High Court on Thursday. The stampede, according to the report, was caused by mistakes and misadministration on the part of the franchise. It also emphasized that the police were not informed in advance by RCB, DNA Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association before the event was planned.

Despite police prohibition, RCB advertised the event to the public in a report initially filed on June 12 and released by the court on July 8. They went so far as to utilize a clip of Virat Kohli to advertise the occasion.

After declaring a victory march from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB had shared Virat Kohli's video message on June 4 at 8:55 AM, cheering with Bengaluru supporters and urging followers to participate in the festivities. The team "intends to celebrate this victory with the people of Bengaluru and RCB fans on 04.06.2025 after the team returns to Bengaluru," according to the description that accompanied the video when it was posted to their official X account.

The video of Kohli was subsequently removed by RCB, but it reappeared on Thursday after the release of the Karnataka government's report.

The timing of the parade was mentioned in another post at 3:14, which also announced a limited number of free passes for the event. The report stated, "This post mentioned, for the first and only time, that free passes (limited entry) were available on shop.royalchallengers.com, and until this point, there had been no information regarding the disbursement of passes, implying that the event was open to all based on RCB's prior posts."

The victory celebration of RCB, who had won their first IPL title, drew a crowd of about three lakh people, resulting in a stampede outside the stadium on June 4 that killed 11 people and injured over 50 others.

After the incident, the Karnataka government established a one-man commission led by a former High Court Judge to look into the incident and, on June 5, suspended the senior police officers in charge of the Cubbon Park Police Station.
