New Delhi: The second day of the Delhi Premier League - School Juniors, an inter-school cricket competition run by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) in conjunction with Hindustan Times, was held on Sunday at the Netaji Subhash Sports Complex in Jasola Vihar.
The competition, which includes 16 of Delhi's best school teams—such as Modern School, Delhi Public School, Bal Bharati Public School, and St. Marks School—is designed to find and develop young cricketing potential throughout the city.
As per the tournament structure for the early rounds, the second day of the tournament saw the quarter-finalists determined after a 10-over-a-side match, but the first day had four high-octane knockout matches.
Tagore International School was defeated by an astounding 96 runs in the fifth game of the tournament by St. Marks School, Meera Bagh. In contrast to St. Marks' 140/1, Tagore International School could only produce 44/6. For his 73-run innings, Yadav was named Player of the Match.

In the sixth game of the competition, Laxman Public School won decisively by 70 runs against Salwan Public School. Ruvik Malhotra, the player of the match, scored 92 runs on 37 balls and took one wicket for eight runs with the ball. While Salwan Public School could only manage 56/6 in 10 overs, Laxman Public School managed to score 126/2.
Two schools with the best cricket academies in the city faced off in the tournament's seventh game. Gyan Bharati School lost to Modern School, Barakhamba Road, by 107 runs. Varun Sharma won player of the match for his 30-ball 106.
With a perfect 10-wicket victory, Venkateshwar Global School overcame SNEH International School in the eighth and last game of the day. Venkateshwar Global easily chased down SNEH International's meager score of 47/3 without losing a wicket. Saksham Agrawal was the player of the game for his 39 runs off 18 balls.
The eight schools that advanced to the quarterfinals are DPS Vasant Kunj, Bal Bharati Public School, DPS R K Puram, Laxman Public School, Vidhya Bharati School, St. Marks School, Modern School, and Venkateshwar Global School.
Although the city has a great and competitive cricket environment, at the grass-root level, there are still issues with fostering talent and giving possibilities. The issue is now being tackled head-on in the capital with the introduction of a School Juniors league for children and DPL for both men and women.
Additionally, the league will act as a grassroots activation platform, generating early buzz, raising awareness, and increasing anticipation in advance of the second season of the DPL, which kicks off in August. The men's league was auctioned off on July 6, and the women's league on July 7.
The quarter-finals will also be a 10-overs-a-side match, while the semi-final and final will be 20-overs-a-side games. The top three squads will take home trophies and cash rewards.
