Chet Holmgren Pledges Thunder Comeback in Game 7, Eyes NBA Championship

To win their first NBA title on Sunday, the Oklahoma City Thunder need Chet Holmgren to step up after a subdued showing in Game 6.
The former Gonzaga star struggled to score, ending with only four points on 2-of-9 shooting. In Oklahoma City's 108-91 loss to the Indiana Pacers, he also had the second-lowest box plus/minus of his playoff career (-11).
Following Game 6, Holmgren stated, "We have to be better at kind of course correcting, getting ourselves back on the right track. I personally could be better at trying to help us get things going in the right way, so we're going to watch the film and see where we can be better."
Holmgren discussed how to handle the highs and lows of the Finals and make adjustments in preparation for Game 7.
There are many highs and lows in playoff basketball, just like any playoff series we've been through thus far, Holmgren noted during the emotional rollercoaster. "It's the end of the world when you lose and it's like the greatest moment in your life when you win every time," he said, admitting how extreme the highs and lows are.
He stressed the need to remain grounded despite the high emotional stakes: "Even if it's everything you dreamed of, you have to remove the emotions from it." As the Gonzaga Bulldogs shared, all you need to do is concentrate on getting ready in the same manner as you have throughout the year, setting yourself up for success in every contest.
"It's all special," Holmgren said. "Every game all the way through." It's difficult to comprehend anything when you're in the thick of it. "But thinking all the way back to the first game we played this year and how long ago that was, and now you know we're going to play the last game of the season tomorrow," he continued. It's insane to consider, but we must concentrate on simply getting ready and doing our best.
He acknowledged that the chance was not certain and stressed its significance. "Clearly, this is an opportunity that is not guaranteed." Holmgren said, "However, there's obviously a lot of grace that's happened as well to help us get here, and we're fortunate for that." Everyone in this organization has put in a lot of effort to help us get to this point, and it wasn't by accident. Nonetheless, we are confident in the effort we have made and the reasons for our presence here. We're going to keep doing that all the way through, he said, thinking about the team's path to Game 7.
Holmgren mentioned areas where the Thunder could improve, notably in their performance at both ends of the court. He stated, "A few X's and O's things, some tactical things that you know we could do better; execute better on both ends of the floor."
The player also stressed the need of taking action rather than merely observing it, saying, "There's some plays that the X's and O's don't matter if you don't just want to make the play." You will either execute the play or observe it being executed. In light of Game 6, Holmgren stated that a change was necessary: "I feel like we watched a lot of plays be made in Game 6, so we got to turn that around."
He said, "I would say to concentrate on what we can control and what we can focus on." We have control over our preparation and our actions to maximize our chances of winning the game, and we can concentrate on those areas. Don't concentrate on anything that doesn't have a bearing on your chances of winning.
