As the 2025 NBA Draft draws near, many potential young players are being highlighted, and one of the hype-promoters in the lead-up is Cedric Coward.

Who is Cedric Coward?

Despite just participating in six games during the previous college season due to a shoulder injury, the 21-year-old guard/forward from Washington State has become a hot subject among NBA insiders. Despite his restricted playing time, Coward garnered the attention of scouts with his outstanding performance, which included 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, as well as shooting percentages of 55.7% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.

"Several lottery teams have shown interest in Cedric Coward. Keep an eye on the Oklahoma City Thunder as a possible landing spot for Coward if they truly utilize this choice on a domestic candidate," NBA insider Brett Siegel tweeted on X (formerly Twitter).

"He's attracted teams like Houston and the [New Orleans] Pelicans, who have the seventh overall pick."

Thunder & Spurs are said to be competing for Cedric.

It is thought that two teams in particular—the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder—are in the running. Both clubs have young lineups and are working toward sustaining playoff success. "Teams have been enamoured with Coward's fitness, athleticism, and high IQ throughout the pre-draft process, while he did not play much this season due to a shoulder injury," Siegel observed.

"Like Jaylen Wells influenced the [Memphis] Grizzlies this past season, Coward is seen as a wing who can immediately help a playoff squad, and there aren't many restrictions to his game."

Although Coward may not be a top choice in the draft, his name is rapidly climbing on the big boards, and if the Spurs or Thunder are interested in adding a pro-ready weapon to their rotation, they should not be surprised if his name is called earlier than he has been rated.
