Bumrah Among Several Pacers to Miss India’s Net Session Before 2nd Test; Gambhir’s Move Hints at Lineup Shake-Up

In preparation for the second Test against England, Team India has switched into reset mode in Birmingham, but everyone's attention was on Jasprit Bumrah as the nets were rolled out at Edgbaston. Times of India reported that India's top pacer was there but conspicuously avoided participating in any on-field action, maintaining the debate over his workload very much alive, while the remainder of the team recovered from the Leeds defeat with a rigorous training session.

But Bumrah wasn't the only player missing from the nets. Prasidh Krishna, who had five wickets in the opening Test but gave up runs at a rate of more than six runs per over in both innings, was also absent from the net session. Prasidh's absence from practice is likely to raise questions about whether India is considering a change in their bowling lineup for Edgbaston, although it has been stated that Bumrah is expected to miss the second Test as part of his workload management.

The team management is prioritizing workload balance in consideration of long-term fitness since Bumrah had bowled a demanding 44 overs in the first game of the series, and he is still the most noticeable player in India's weakened attack.

Following the defeat in Leeds, head coach Gautam Gambhir, who had previously emphasized that Bumrah would not participate in more than three Tests in this series, said that the pacer's availability would be determined on a game-by-game basis.

Gambhir's talk with Akash Deep and Arshdeep

Among the pacers, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh stood out, spending a lot of time chatting with Gambhir during the session. There had previously been rumors that the two were vying for the same position, but Akash Deep and Arshdeep might play in the second Test if Prasidh Krishna is not available. For the former, it will be their first Test appearance.

In the meantime, the other members of the team took full advantage of their return to the nets. While Mohammed Siraj concentrated on improving his batting technique, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill endured lengthy periods in the batting session.

Following a well-deserved day off on Thursday, which included a bonding activity at an adventure park, the team's demeanor was rather laid back. Despite the criticism brought about by the loss in Leeds, India's leadership team continues to support the young team through this transition phase, placing a priority on smart management and cohesiveness.
