Australian cricket legend Brett Lee was polite, kind, and modest in reacting to Neeraj Chopra, India's two-time Olympic medalist. Amid Chopra's comeback to the nation for the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, following consecutive victories at the Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike, Lee made the remark.

When JioStar, the official broadcaster of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, interviewed the Indian athlete recently, they asked him which cricketer he thought would have excelled in javelin throw. Chopra named Lee, the former Australian fast bowler.

"I have heard that Brett Lee was a javelin thrower. I believe he was able to throw the javelin well, particularly during his prime," he stated.

In response to Chopra's statement, Lee acknowledged on Monday that the javelin tale was indeed true—he had dabbled in the sport while still in school. But he also stated that he was never at the same level as Chopra. Lee also mentioned how hard javelin is on the elbow before wishing the Olympic champion the best for his upcoming competition.

"Although I did throw the javelin during my school days, it was nowhere near what Neeraj does and keeps doing. Extremely hard on the elbow. However, I have been amazed by this outstanding athlete's abilities, and I hope he does well," he tweeted.

The Neeraj Chopra Classic, which begins on July 5, will be India's first-ever international javelin competition. It was originally scheduled for May 24 but was postponed due to military tensions between India and Pakistan. The venue has also been relocated from Panchkula to Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru due to lighting limitations at the original venue that affected live telecast capabilities.

Organised by Chopra in collaboration with JSW Sports and sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), the event will feature a world-class field comprising seven top international throwers and five Indian athletes, including Chopra himself.
