New Delhi: The interim committee in charge of managing boxing stated on Sunday that it would hold the postponed elections for the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) by the deadline of August 31 set by World Boxing, and that the federation's independence should not be compromised.

The day after the Indian Olympic Association announced that it had formed a three-member committee to analyze the reasons for the vote delay, Col. (retd) Arun Malik, the executive director of the BFI and a member of the interim panel for boxing, seemed to raise doubts about the IOA's involvement in a statement.

Malik made the following statement in reference to WB prolonging the panel's tenure until the end of August: "At the same time, it is important to reaffirm that the framework laid down by the world body governs the national federation's autonomy. The IOA's creation of a three-member fact-finding committee is something we respect, but the process is already transparent, accountable, and well-documented. Both the IOA and the (sports) ministry have received official communication of all significant events and action items, guaranteeing total institutional transparency. Given that all the information is already available to the public, there is not much to be discovered.

"Our priority remains on facilitating a seamless, legal, and prompt transfer in the best interests of Indian boxing."

Internal disputes have caused the postponement of the BFI elections since March 28, and the matter has also been brought before the courts. The sports ministry and IOA have requested a prompt fix.
