On the first day of Wimbledon 2025, there has already been a significant surprise as ninth-seeded Daniil Medvedev was eliminated following a first-round loss. The Russian ace was stunned when he was defeated by Benjamin Bonzi. The 29-year-old Frenchman won 7-6(2), 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2, marking the first significant upset of Wimbledon 2025.

The grass court major had its warmest opening day ever as Bonzi's composure and precision from the back court proved to be the deciding factor. With his outstanding serving, he also gave Medvedev a hard time.

Bonzi is now ranked at No. 64 in the globe, and on September 19, 2022, he achieved his career-high doubles ranking of No. 121 in the world. During his time as a junior, he won the 2014 French Open boys' doubles championship. In 2017, he made his Grand Slam debut as a wildcard in the French Open. After defeating Daniil Medvedev, who quit in their first-round match, he was defeated by Albert Ramos in the second round.

In 2018, he qualified for Wimbledon and made his debut there. In the final qualifying round, he beat James Ward, but in the first round of the main draw, he lost to Lukas Lacko.

With Amandine Hesse as a wildcard, he also made it to the 2019 French Open quarterfinals in mixed doubles. In the second round of the 2020 French Open, he was defeated by Jannik Sinner.

After winning the Segovia Challenger, he made his top 100 debut in 2021. In the same year, he also attained a new career high of World No. 61. In the meanwhile, he made his Masters 1000 debut at Indian Wells in 2022, where he advanced to the third round, and he also reached his first-ever ATP semi-final. As a qualifier, he took the top spot at the Moselle Open in 2024, winning his first ATP TOur championship.
