In the final T20I game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, spinner Mahedi Hasan began with statistics of 4-1-11-4, contributing to the Tigers' victory and series victory with a bit of history at the R Premadasa Stadium. Mahedi shattered a long-standing record set by Harbhajan Singh by opening the bowling from one end.

In the decisive match in Colombo, Sri Lanka was limited to 132/7 as a result of Mahedi's thrifty four-wicket haul, which he accomplished while bowling two overs during the powerplay and taking the wickets of four of the top five batsmen for the island nation. With his outstanding performance, Mahedi shattered Harbhajan's record for the greatest numbers by a visiting bowler in a T20I match at the R Premadasa Stadium.
