On Tuesday, Vinesh Phogat—one of India's most well-known wrestlers and a first-time politician—began a new chapter in her life with the birth of her first child, a son. At a private Delhi clinic, the 30-year-old Congress MLA and her husband, the well-known wrestler Somvir Rathee, welcomed their son into the world.

The happy news was confirmed by her older brother, Harvinder Phogat. "Vinesh gave birth to a baby boy this morning. Both mother and baby are healthy. It's a moment of great joy for our family". "We will all visit her soon," he said, adding that Vinesh will soon be returning to Somvir's house. "Everyone in our village, Balali, is thrilled to welcome her and the baby."

With the caption, "Our love story continues with a new chapter," along with baby and heart emojis, Vinesh shared her pregnancy news on social media back in March. The post received positive comments from fans and other athletes.

Following a tumultuous and emotional period in Vinesh's life, this wonderful news comes. She suffered heartbreak at the Paris Olympics last year when she was disqualified from the women's 50 kg final for going over the weight restriction. Although she left the door open for a potential return to wrestling, she afterwards referred to the incident as the "biggest wound" in her life.

During a successful career, Vinesh has captured three Commonwealth Games gold medals, an Asian Games gold, and two World Championships bronze medals.

Move into politics

Since then, her path has become more political. In September, Vinesh joined the Indian National Congress, and in the Haryana Assembly elections, he won the Julana seat by defeating Yogesh Kumar of the BJP.

"Hearty congratulations and best wishes… I pray the newborn brings happiness and good health to the family," party colleague Kumari Selja said on Tuesday, sending her warmest greetings.

Vinesh was also a leader in the wrestlers' protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former head of the Wrestling Federation of India, who was charged with sexual harassment.
