BCCI and PCB Clash as Asia Cup Faces Uncertainty: ‘Tournament Now a Geopolitical Issue’

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are currently engaged in a significant conflict over the uncertainty surrounding this year's Asia Cup. The six-team Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be played in the T20 format, is now under the hosting rights of the BCCI. The Pahalgam terrorist assault, though, has raised serious questions about whether the competition will still be held in India or whether the Men in Blue will even participate. The rivalry may be moved to the UAE since there are no indications that the diplomatic stalemate is resolving. The tournament's location and schedule have not yet been revealed by the Asian Cricket Council. September is the tournament's unofficial window, according to rumor.

The report on Cricbuzz stating that the BCCI is considering missing the ACC's AGM, which is currently chaired by the PCB, has made things difficult for Asia's cricket regulatory body.

The BCCI is contemplating not attending the AGM if the location is not changed from Dhaka. The position is supported by the boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka as well.

The need for at least three permanent (Test-playing) members for the AGM to proceed has made the ongoing power struggle between the two boards even more intense, leaving the meeting in doubt.

But Mohsin Naqvi, the current head of the ACC, and the PCB are unwilling to move the AGM's location. According to the report, he even went to Afghanistan to persuade them to come to the AGM in Dhaka, but it didn't seem to help them very much.

The 'ACC AGM has now become a geopolitical issue'

The BCCI is hesitant to visit Dhaka for the upcoming AGM because of persistent diplomatic tensions between the two nations. India could also boycott the competition if the AGM was held in Dhaka.

On the other hand, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) insider told Cribuzz that the AGM is now in a geopolitical context.

"Now it seems the incident has evolved into a geopolitical issue. When the PCB president approached him to host the meeting, Aminul Islam, the interim head of the BCB, might have handled the situation more carefully. In this kind of circumstance, taking time is part of the game, so I believe he might have used more of it. The insider informed Cricbuzz that he most likely consented to host it without completely grasping the geopolitical ramifications because he was inexperienced.
