India, June 30 – Ayush Shetty has accomplished something that no other Indian badminton player has done before: winning a BWF World Tour championship in 2025. PV Sindhu has not won one by any means. Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were just able to advance to the semifinals. Previous world When he reached the Malaysia Masters final in May, Kidambi Srikanth, the top player, came the closest.
The stalemate came to an end on Sunday when Shetty, who is 20 years old, stood on the highest step of the podium in Council Bluffs, Iowa, after taking home the $240,000 US Open men's singles title.
The world No.34, who is the second highest ranked Indian badminton player after Lakshya Sen (world No.20), defeated third seed Brian Yang 21-18, 21-13 in the final in just 47 minutes to win his third consecutive win over the Canadian and the first title of his nascent senior career.
"He has been making progress this year." He did well in his performances at the Orleans Masters and Taipei Open, where he made it to the semifinals. Indeed, he has defeated some high-profile opponents, such as Rasmus Gemke and Low Kean Yew, a former world champion.
"However, defeating (world No.6) Chou Tien Chen at the US Open, especially in the semi-finals, was a great accomplishment. Since he led the first game 19-14, he may have won in two games. After that, he lost 23-21. I particularly enjoyed his aggressive style when he returned."

The lanky Shetty has had good fortune playing in the United States. When Shetty won bronze at the 2023 World Junior Championships, he made his name in the United States two years prior. He also reached the finals of the Bahrain International and Odisha Masters championships, both of which were held in 2023.
After successfully transitioning to the senior level last year, Shetty chose to compete only in lower tier competitions, consistently reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals before finally winning the 2024 Dutch Open. However, Shetty began competing in higher-tier competitions on the BWF World Tour this year, with the intention of not only competing but also stunning some of the top-rated athletes.
Because he is 6'4", his smashes are quite hard. Many gamers find that disturbing. That's one of his strong points. Additionally, he excels in net play. Vimal, who is also a national selector, stated that "his defense has improved over the past three or four months as he has been deliberately working on it."
"He has shown real progress. I'm really happy with how he's been playing lately. With the name, he's establishing himself on the global arena. I'm really delighted for him.
Shetty, a product of the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bengaluru, trains with Sen, Kiran George, and Manraj Singh, among others. Having won the Super 300 championship, he will now compete in this week's $240,000 Canada Open in Markham, which is another Super 300 tournament. He is seeded fifth in the competition and will face fellow countryman S Sankar Muthusamy in the first round.
I said to him, "It's not over, you have to try and win the Canada Open too," and I urged him to keep his attention. He still has five matches left. I want him to keep doing well in the upcoming competition. We have set him the goal of finishing in the top 25 by the end of the year, Vimal continued.
In the championship match, Tanvi is defeated.
At the age of 16, Tanvi Sharma was at the end of her journey. She had given great performances throughout the week before falling to top seed and local favorite Beiwen Zhang in the women's singles championship match. India's world No.66 defeated opponents ranked Nos.23, 40, 50, and 58 on her way to the final, demonstrating some amazing performances, but she ultimately lost 11–21, 21–16, 10–21 in 46 minutes.
