India, June 30 – Ayush Shetty has accomplished something that no other Indian badminton player has done before: winning a BWF World Tour championship in 2025. PV Sindhu has not won one by any means. After successfully transitioning to the senior level last year, Shetty chose to compete only in lower tier competitions, consistently reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals before finally winning the 2024 Dutch Open. However, Shetty began competing in higher-tier competitions on the BWF World Tour this year, with the intention of not only competing but also stunning some of the top-rated athletes.

Because he is 6'4", his smashes are quite hard. Many gamers find that disturbing. That's one of his strong points. Additionally, he excels in net play. Vimal, who is also a national selector, stated that "his defense has improved over the past three or four months as he has been deliberately working on it."

Shetty, a product of the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bengaluru, trains with Sen, Kiran George, and Manraj Singh, among others. Having won the Super 300 championship, he will now compete in this week's $240,000 Canada Open in Markham, which is another Super 300 tournament. He is seeded fifth in the competition and will face fellow countryman S Sankar Muthusamy in the first round.
