According to seasoned India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, the injury Rishabh Pant suffered at Lord's was not a major worry for the visiting team, and he insisted that the information surrounding it was exaggerated. On Day 1 at Lord's, Pant suffered a finger injury while trying a diving catch, which caused him to leave the field for medical care. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel took over behind the stumps. Nevertheless, the wicketkeeper batsman displayed amazing resolve by coming back to bat in both innings and contributing key blows to aid India's cause. Although there were some concerns about whether he would be able to play as wicketkeeper in the Manchester game, he has already started practicing wicketkeeping in the nets.

In the meantime, Ashwin downplayed fears over Pant's injury, calling the media's coverage of it an exaggeration. Additionally, he explained that Pant's finger was not fractured and that, were it not for the replacement wicketkeeper regulation, he would have continued to keep in the last Test.

The seasoned all-rounder went on to laud the Indian players' abilities, particularly the bowling attack, which he claims is better than England in a one-on-one match.
