India, June 14 — The MGD1 squad led by Arjun Erigaisi was the main draw at the 2025 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship's rapid section. After winning all four of its matches on the last day, MGD1 took first place.

The last four crucial rounds of the quick section were played on the last day, and the Indian MGD1 team won all of them. MGD1 concluded their rapid campaign with 21 match points after winning 10, drawing 1, and losing 1 from 12 matches.

Amateur player Atharvaa P. Tayade, who was a member of the MGD1 team and had a flawless record in the rapid tournament with just one loss, was one of the team's star attractions.

Erigaisi lavished admiration on his amateur teammate in response to a question about him during Take Take Take. Erigaisi also disclosed that the two players met in a match in 2012, giving a glimpse into Tayade's life.

"Yes, obviously. I didn't know him, to be honest, but it's amusing that we played a match in a 2012 tournament and he defeated me there. I didn't recall that match, but indeed, it was somewhat amusing to accomplish that. Srinath also did an excellent job of locating him. Additionally, he has completed the IIT program and is currently enrolled in the IIM program. "Thus, it's like two of the most difficult ones in education in India," he stated.

Erigaisi answered, "I'm not sure if he has time for that," when questioned if Atharvaa could pursue a career in chess.

The Hexamind Chess Team took second place in the quick tournament. Freedom, which included Viswanathan Anand in its lineup, took third place.

Some of the best players in the world, including Ian Nepomniachtchi, a two-time candidate for world champion, will compete in the blitz tournament, which starts on Saturday.
