The MGD1 team, led by Arjun Erigaisi, was the main draw during the quick portion of the 2025 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship. After winning all four of its contests on the last day, MGD1 took the top spot.

The last four crucial rounds of the rapid section were played on the final day, and the Indian MGD1 team prevailed in every contest. MGD1 concluded their quick campaign with 21 match points after winning 10, drawing 1, and losing 1 out of 12 games.

Amateur player Atharvaa P. Tayade, who was a standout in the MGD1 team's lineup, also had a flawless performance in the rapid tournament, finishing with just one loss.

Erigaisi showered compliments on his amateur teammate in response to a question about him during Take Take Take. Erigaisi further disclosed that the two players met in a match in 2012, providing a glimpse into Tayade's life.

"Yes, obviously. I didn't really know him, but the amusing thing is that we played a match at a tournament in 2012, and he defeated me. I didn't remember the game, but yeah, it was kind of amusing to do that. Srinath also excelled at locating him. Additionally, he has completed the IIT program and is currently enrolled in the IIM program. "So it's like two of the toughest ones in education in India," he stated.

Erigaisi answered, "I'm not sure if he has time for that," when questioned if Atharvaa could pursue a career in chess.

The Hexamind Chess Team took second place in the blitz tournament. Freedom, which included Viswanathan Anand in their lineup, took third place.

Saturday marks the start of the blitz tournament, which will feature some of the greatest players in the world, like Ian Nepomniachtchi, a two-time candidate for world champion.
