Anshul Kamboj Eyes Manchester Debut Amidst Strategic Talks with Gautam Gambhir Ahead of 4th Test

Anshul Kamboj has been living life at breakneck speed. The young pacer had his first complete net session in preparation for the crucial fourth Test, just a day after the BCCI formally selected him to the Indian Test team for the last two games against England. Since then, the Manchester training session has sparked conjecture that the team's management may give him his first cap on Wednesday at Old Trafford.
According to a report in the Times of India, Kamboj "multiple discussions" with head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowled for more than 45 minutes in the nets with the new ball. Additionally, he was observed chatting with veteran pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, asking them questions. He maintained consistency in his deliveries to the Indian top-order, which included KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and captain Shubman Gill, according to the report.
Following a triple blow for India on Sunday, Kamboj was included to the roster. Last week, Arshdeep Singh was struck by the ball in the nets, requiring stitches on his hand. He was excluded from the fourth Test in Manchester by the BCCI. "While bowling in the nets during a training session in Beckenham, he suffered an impact injury to his left thumb. The BCCI Medical Team is keeping an eye on his recovery," the statement stated.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, a superb all-rounder, on the other hand, was forced to withdraw from the series due to a knee ailment. Furthermore, Akash Deep, a member of the XI in the previous two games—one of which saw him take 10 wickets to win the match in Birmingham—was hampered by a groin ailment he sustained during the Lord's match.
In its press statement on Monday, the BCCI made no mention of Akash, but the right-arm pacer had a fitness test during the Manchester training session. The TOI story also stated that "Akash bowled a few balls under the watch of bowling coach Morne Morkel and the physio." But he did nothing in the nets and is not expected to play in the Old Trafford Test.
Shardul Thakur is scheduled to take Nitish's place in Manchester, so India does have a backup for him. So far on the tour, he had only participated in the series opener in Leeds last month. The management has three choices for Akash: Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, and Kamboj.
Krishna had taken six wickets in the first two games, but the report continued, adding that he didn't take the new ball in the nets on Tuesday and instead spent the first hour watching, indicating that the management is unlikely to give him the assignment in Manchester.
Prior to the series' start, Kamboj had been considered for a position in the Test team. He took five wickets in the two games of the India A tour, which was very impressive.
